Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180C°C.

Step 2

Grease a 9-inch pie pan and set it aside.

Step 3

Place the pie crust centered on the pie pan and press the edges to fit properly.

Step 4

TUCK the overhanging edge under the crust and press.

Step 5

Make patterns with a fork for an aesthetic look.

Step 6

Unlike some pie recipes, there is no need to preheat your empty pie crust for this Thanksgiving sweet potato pie recipe. Doing this can cause your pie crust edges to burn.

Step 7

In a large mixing bowl add the sweet potatoes, and all other ingredients and beat until mixed well and the mixture is smooth.

Step 8

Add Flour and mix well.

Step 9

Pour the pie filling mixture into the unbaked pie crust.

Step 10

Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 40 minutes. Until the center of the pie is just set and does not jiggle in the center when moved.

Step 11

Cool before serving.

Tips

  • Mashed Sweet Potato: bake or boil sweet potatoes until they are tender when pricked with a toothpick.
  • Remove from the oven and allow cooling until they can easily be mashed.
  • Peel the skin from the sweet potatoes and mash them to a smooth paste.
  • Make this potato pie in advance and freeze it for a simple and easy Thanksgiving dessert. 
  • If you want a decadent treat, serve it with ice cream or whipped cream on top. Or add a yummy layer of cream cheese frosting to enjoy this dessert as a Southern sweet potato pie!
